NAVIGATING VALENTINES DAY: DAMES SURVIVAL TIPS REGARDLESS IF YOU’RE SINGLE OR NOT

It comes very year, no matter how hard we wish for it to be here or not to be here. It's when every store is filled with red and pink hearts, and there are more jewelry commercials than usual. It’s the dreaded V-Day. Valentine’s Day. It is the day that, when you are with someone it is supposed to be amazing and romantic, and when you are single you just want it to be over with. So how is a dame, be it single or in a relationship, supposed to survive this monumental day? Here are some tips on how to take the day head on, and come out with a smile.

Embrace it:

Single: It’s going to happen. The day is going to come. Make the best out of it! Instead of dwelling on the fact that you don’t have a significant other to share your day with, focus on the people that you do have in your life. Make it about family, friends or even co-workings. To make the day more light hearted, why don’t you try baking for them. Or you could go old school with the little Valentine’s Day cards and candies you use to get as a kid and hand them out. Whatever you decide to do, there is never too much love that can be shared with the people in your life.

Dating: The day is finally here. The day when love and romance are supposed to be in the air. With that being said, enjoy it no matter what the outcome. No amount of gifts or flowers can make up for quality time spent enjoying your partner. Be grateful for the person in your life.

 Plans:

Single: You may not be in the mood to go out and see everyone else with their significant others. But you can plan to go out and have fun with your friends or family. If you are out with people you love you won’t be alone and stand to have a really fun night. Or just do something that you enjoy. You can be your own valentine. Go get some good candy, watch a good movie and enjoy some down time.

Dating: If you never go anywhere, tonight would be the night. So, if you do have plans to do something romantic, make sure you actually plan it. Make reservations or put something into it motion ahead of time, because there are going to be a lot of other people that have the same idea as you.  If you don’t, you may end up not being able to get a table or even a room. This could force you to end up at home with take-out (which is never a bad thing) but somewhat disappointing if you are all dressed up with no place to go.

Expectations:

Single: Don’t have any. It won’t be as bad as you think. It is just another day. Yes you may see someone with flowers on her desk that don’t usually have them but, that’s ok. It’s no reason to be down. If you don’t want to feel left out of the circle, send some to yourself if you’d like.

Dating: It’s just one day. Don’t be upset if it turns out to be just that, a normal day. If the person you love and care for doesn’t show you affection the other 364 days out of the year than your relationship might need a closer look. Kind gestures of affection are always welcomed, but don’t get upset if nothing is done above and beyond. Girls, if you don’t get that engagement ring you’ve been hoping, don’t hold it against him. Just continue to love him.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! Regardless if you are ready for it or not, but don’t worry. No matter if you are single or with someone you love more than ever, be ready to have a great day! Happy Valentine ’s Day everyone!
